1. OUTLINE
------------

The RKC GSD file editor is a program used to automatically edit GSD files
necessary to connect RKC products to PROFIBUS.

This program creates GSD files for the "COM-G" communication converter
necessary to connect RKC controllers to PROFIBUS.

  Relevant RKC controller
  ECB series (CB100/CB400/CB500/CB700/CB900)
  EF series (REX-F400/REX-F700/REX-F900)
  ESA200
  ELE100

2. OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
-------------------------

  Operating System: Windows95/Windows98/WindowsNT4.0/Windows2000

  * The RKC GSD file editor itself runs in any of the above environments,
but Internet Explorer version 4.0 or more needs to be installed to view
    Online help.

3. INSTALLING/UNINSTALLING
---------------------

3.1 For Program Distribution by Using Floppy Disk

Check that the following files exist in the floppy disk.

  readme.txt ..... This manual
  RGSDEdit.exe ... Program itself
  RGSDEdit.ini ... Setting information file
  RGSDEdit.chm ... Online help
*.rge .......... Communication identifier definition file for each controller

After checking the above, create a directory suitable for the hard disk
drive, and then copy all of the files.
If this is complete, installing ends.
In addition, it is recommended that shortcut files be created.

Uninstalling deletes all of the above files.

3.2 For Downloading Program from Internet

Check that the following files exist after extracting downloaded compression
  files.

  readme.txt ..... This manual
  RGSDEdit.exe ... Program itself
  RGSDEdit.ini ... Setting information file
  RGSDEdit.chm ... Online help
*.rge .......... Communication identifier definition file for each controller

After checking the above, create a directory suitable for the hard disk
drive, and then copy all of the files.
If this is complete, installing ends.
In addition, it is recommended that shortcut files be created.

Uninstalling deletes all of the above files.

4. OPERATION
-------------

The operation procedure is explained by using diagrams also in the Online
  help.
Therefore, it is described briefly in the following.

  4.1 Startup and Termination

  Startup:
Start RGSDEdit.EXE directly from the Explorer, etc.

  Termination:
If [Exit] in the [File] menu is selected, the RKC GSD file editor can be
  terminated.

  4.2 Selecting Controller Used

Select an RKC controller being used from the tab page in the "Function List,"
and display selection items of the controller.

4.3 Setting No. of Dynamic Data Items Requested and Connectable No. of
      Controllers

Enter the desired values in "Number of Dynamic Data" and "Connected
  Controllers," respectively.
As the number of dynamic data requested, specify the number suitable for the
  sequence program.
In addition, as connectable number of controllers, specify the number of
  controllers connected to COM-G.

  4.4 Selecting Function Item

Select the desired read or write item from the "Function List."
In order to select two or more items, select them while pressing the Ctrl
  key.

  4.5 Adding Function Item

After selecting the desired item, click the ADD button.
As there is the "ADD" button for each of item read and write, select the
desired item from the "Function List," and then add it by the respective
  "ADD" button.

  4.6 Deleting Unnecessary Function Item

Even if any unnecessary item is added by mistake, it can be deleted by
selecting it from the list of added read and write items and then by clicking
  the "DELETE" button.
In addtion, if all of the items need to be deleted, click the "CLEAR" button.

  4.7 Saving GSD File

After editing read and write items, write the result to a GSD file.
Select "Save As" from the menu "File" to save the file after designating
  its file name.
Thus, the GSD file has been created.

4.8 Opening GSD File/Re-editing GSD File

When any GSD file onec saved needs to be re-edited, select the "Open GSD
  File" from the menu "File."

5. rge FILE
-------------

The RKC GSD file editor, when started, reads files with the "rge" extension
existing in the same directory as RGSDEdit.exe.
Communication identifiers and names of each controller are listed in this
  *.rge file.
If an RKC controller being used is optional and no desired selection item
exists in the RKC GSD file editor, the optional communication identifier can
be added to the "Function List" by editing this *.rge file using the text
  editor (NOTE PAD, etc.).

Formats for the rge file are as follows.

    "Communication identifier (2 characters)", "Name", 0, 0, 0,
    "Communication identifier (2 characters)", "Name", 0, 0, 0,
    "Communication identifier (2 characters)", "Name", 0, 0, 0,
.... (They are described in more detail.)

The numeric values 0, 0 and 0 at the end of each line may be changed to
  1, 1 and 1.
The format is simple so that the communication identifier and its name are
enclosed with double quotation marks, respectively and the succeeding three
numeric values are separated by commas.

For the communication identifier, see the Communication Instruction Manual
  of each controller.
